Accessibility statement
Silktide is committed to making Silktide Academy accessible, in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA — the same standard Silktide holds all of its web properties to.
Conformance status
WCAG defines three levels of conformance: A, AA and AAA. Silktide Academy is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA: some parts of the content do not yet fully conform, and they are listed below.
Conformance is checked as the site is built, in two ways. All of the site’s own code is linted against the recommended set of jsx-a11y rules, every rule treated as an error, with no file exempted and no existing finding grandfathered in. Separately, the automated tests render components and check them with the axe accessibility rules; that suite covers many of the site’s components but not yet all of them, so the rest is covered by manual testing rather than by a machine. This statement is updated as the items below close.
What is in place
- Every lesson video has a transcript, and every published course’s trailer a text alternative. That is enforced where courses are written, not just true of today’s content: the authoring tool refuses to save a lesson without both a video and its transcript, and refuses to publish a course whose trailer has no text alternative. If you ever meet a lesson video without a transcript, that is a defect — please tell us.
- The whole site works with a keyboard, with a skip link to the main content and visible focus on every control.
- The site uses one dark theme. Your operating system’s increased-contrast setting is honored. Its reduce-motion setting is honored too: with it on, nothing on the site animates.
- Lesson videos never start on their own: however you reach a lesson — “Start course”, “Continue”, a lesson in the course’s contents, “Next” or its link — it shows its poster, and nothing plays until you press play. The one video that starts by itself is a course’s trailer on the course’s page, which plays without sound and with captions on. Select it to turn the sound on, or use its buttons to pause it or to open it in the full player with its transcript. It does not start by itself if your device’s reduce-motion setting is on, if you chose extended audio description, or in the classic design.
- Captions are on by default in the player, and the player’s own controls carry captions, audio description where the video has one, and fullscreen. An extended audio description preference on your profile page plays the described version of a lesson wherever one exists.
- Text can be resized to 200% and pages reflow to a 320px-wide viewport. No page disables pinch zoom.
- On the video screens, text and controls carry their own background rather than relying on contrast against the moving picture behind them.
Non-accessible content
The following is being addressed at the time of writing:
- Video player controls. Lesson videos play in third-party players (Wistia, YouTube). Their controls are provided by those services and may not fully meet AA; the transcript beside the video is the alternative.
- Interactive activities. Some lessons include an interactive activity authored separately from the site. These are being reviewed individually; each lesson’s text and video stand on their own without the activity.

Preparation of this statement
This statement was prepared on September 17, 2026, from the Academy’s own automated and manual testing during development, and is reviewed as the items above are resolved. Silktide’s company-wide statement is at silktide.com/accessibility-statement.
